Camden Family Hubs Pregnancy Grant
Pregnancy is exciting, but it can also bring extra costs and challenges. To help ease some of the financial pressure, our Children’s Centres and Family Hubs and Money Advice Camden teams are working with the NHS to give cash grants to eligible pregnant people in Camden.
Who can get the pregnancy grant
We’re offering this service to families across Camden who may benefit from extra help during pregnancy. The pregnancy grant is available to those who:
- live in Camden or in housing provided by Camden Council (including temporary accommodation or a refuge)
- had their 20-week scan between Tuesday 1 April 2025 and Friday 26 February 2027
- are receiving or eligible for Universal Credit (even if you're listed as a spouse or non-dependant on someone else's claim), Housing Benefit, or Council Tax Support
How much you’ll get
The pregnancy grant is a £500 cash payment for you to spend however you like during your pregnancy. Receiving the grant will not affect your benefits or financial support, including Sure Start Maternity Grant and our Cost of Living Crisis Fund.
How to apply for the pregnancy grant
We’ve contacted people who recently attended a midwife appointment and receive support through benefits by letter and email to offer them the pregnancy grant. If you’ve received this, there's nothing else you need to do before following the instructions to claim it. Your data remains safe and secure, and you can read our privacy notice about this.
If you have not been contacted by us by week 28 of your pregnancy and you think you qualify, we encourage you to apply for the grant. We will be accepting applications until 26 March 2027.
How to claim the pregnancy grant
If you got a letter and email from us about the pregnancy grant, follow the instructions to claim it.
The fastest way to get your pregnancy grant is by withdrawing cash from a cashpoint with our trusted provider PIN4CASH. You can withdraw the full amount for free from a Cashzone ATM, without a bank card. PIN4CASH will send you a text message with instructions on how to do this.
You can also receive the pregnancy grant by bank transfer and the email you received has instructions on how to do this. Bank transfers will take 5 to 7 business days to process. If your account is overdrawn, the payment may automatically be used to cover the negative balance instead of being available for spending.
How to use your pregnancy grant
You can spend the pregnancy grant however you like. Some ways local parents have used it include:
- paying off bills
- buying healthy food for themselves
- transport to go to antenatal appointments
The NHS has advice on what’s truly essential for a baby. You can find great second-hand items, and our Children’s Centres and Family Hubs can help you find free and affordable baby essentials.
What happens next
As well as the grant, you might be contacted by one of our Family Hubs Navigators, who can guide you through the support you can get in Camden. They’ll call you to check you were able to access your pregnancy grant and explain the services available to you.
Whether you are contacted by a Family Hubs Navigator or not, you can visit our Children's Centres and Family Hubs for free, local support such as:
- the Solihull Approach antenatal parenting classes to meet other expectant parents and prepare for birth
- mental health and wellbeing support through Parents Matter
- help with budgeting, benefits advice or applying for financial support such as Healthy Start vouchers or the Sure Start Maternity Grant
