Ordinarily available provision for children with SEND

Ordinarily Available Provision is a set of guidelines for schools and educational settings. It outlines the support they should provide for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

We have worked with schools, parents, carers, and SEND support services to create this guidance.

We are currently updating our online Local Offer content. However, you can still access the guidelines for schools and educational settings in the Expectations of Schools documents:

Part A includes the following information:

  • national and local levels rules and expectations
  • details about the Special Educational and Disabilities Coordinator's role
  • ways to fund extra support for children and young people when needed
  • Quality First Teaching
  • how to assess, plan, and carry out interventions, and review progress
  • an overview of Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Needs Assessments

Read the Expectations of Schools, Part A

Part B includes the following information:

  • guidance about the strategies and interventions when planning support
  • information around the four areas of need in the Code of Practice
