Sports and leisure activities for young people with SEND
We want all young people to remain active and healthy. This can be done by:
- having a healthy lifestyle
- eating well
- having access to sports and leisure
We provide leisure activities and some are provided by charities and local organisations working with us. Some activities are universal and some are targeted services.
Other activities are specialist for children with complex needs and disability.
We offer a range of specialist short break activities for children and young people with disabilities to:
- access the community
- develop skills and communication
- develop friendships into adulthood
Eating well and staying healthy
Capital Growth encourages people to start food-growing projects on unused land and to get involved with existing growing spaces.
The National Autistic Society has created an eating guide. This has with useful information such as sensory experience, environment and obsessions, special interests and routines.
Sports and exercise
Physical activity is a good way to stay healthy and it's important to enjoy what you do:

- get information on keeping active with a health condition
Comets
Football sessions for children aged 5-11 with SEND. They happen every Saturday, 9.30am to 11.30am, at Maria Fidelis Catholic School, NW1 1LY. The cost is £2 per session.
Libraries, parks and outdoor gyms
Spending time in parks can benefit your health and wellbeing. We have lots of parks and open spaces in Camden for you to play and exercise in.
There are 11 free outdoor gyms open to everyone aged over 14 years old.
Voluntary Action Camden lists activities you can get involved with in parks and green spaces. This includes group walks, gardening, and volunteering opportunities.
For natural exercise, get involved in conservation volunteering, led by TVC Green Gym.
Camden libraries offer a great range of accessible resources for children and young people.
Part of the community
We want all young people to be a part of their community and develop healthy and meaningful friendships.
There are lots of activities for you to get involved in, you can:
- visit the Integrated Youth Support Service for support on young people's social and personal development
- join the Reactive Forum to give feedback on services, decision-making, and planning that affect disabled young people
- join the Young People For Inclusion (YPFI) which is a social enterprise made up of young disabled people
Health and Wellbeing Group
Learn more about staying healthy and active, meet new people and find out about things to do. The group is on Mondays, 3pm to 4pm, from Monday 28 April to Monday 4 August at 5 Pancras Square, Kings Cross, N1C 4AG.
Arts and drama
- Access All Areas is a theatre company for people with learning disabilities
- Action Space provides opportunities for artists with learning disabilities
- Deafinitely Theatre gives deaf people opportunities in theatre
- WAC Arts provides a programme of activities for young people
Voyagers
Music-making group for primary school-aged children with SEND. It runs every Wednesday in term-time, 4.30pm to 5pm, at Edith Neville Primary School. The cost is £66.70 per 10-week term. Find out more and apply to join.
Cinemas
- CEA Card provides cinema concessions for disabled cinema-goers
- Dimensions list autism-friendly screenings at various cinemas
- Odeon Cinema has specially adapted screenings for those with autism, sensory needs, or learning impairments
Volunteering
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, develop new skills and become part of the community.

Night life
- Stay Up Late supports people with learning disabilities and autistic people to go out to gigs and events with a volunteer
